Shaun ‘Surveyboy’ Bootsma is a by trade a Land Surveyor. He grew up in Southern California and spent a fair amount of time outdoors. First true off road time was going to San Felipe Mexico with a family friend to test run his new to him 10 class buggy for a score race. Since that time, he developed a passion for 4x4’s and bought his ’85 CJ-7 in 2000, which he still owns today. He has been involved in professional rock crawling since about 2003 as everything from recovery personal, course judge, course marshal, and most recently as a competitor, volunteer coordinator and race operations manager in nearly every major series on the west coast, Cal Rocs, W.E. Rock, Cal-Neva, Pro-Rock and Ultra 4.
Deanne ‘Crash’ Angeloni-Bootsma’s history goes back even further. Her first introduction to off roading was by her father at the age of 4. Growing up in Northern California by her teens she competed in both mud bogs and drags. She has also spent time as a pit crew member for Tuff Trucks and Vorra desert racing teams. She first visited the famous Rubicon Trail in 2004.
They now live in Northern California and make many trips around the state for the King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley, annual club runs at Hollister Hills SRVA and trips to the ‘con every year. Being on the road and camping as often as they do, they first tried Off Road Jerky back just after Scott Reel started the business and have always enjoyed it. When the opportunity presented itself to take over the business, they jumped at the chance. They firmly believe in only selling something that they would themselves eat.
Both are committed deeply to promoting Land Use issues and keeping public lands open to the public. We openly support groups like RTF, BRC, FOJV and others. We personally donate $100’s of dollars per year to these groups and as we get established as vendors, we will be donating as a company more each year.
